The BVI

On numereous of my pages, you would have noticed that I mention my home town British Virgin Islands (BVI). So I decided to write a little about the territory.

The British Virgin Islands is a group of approximately 40 islands and islets, of which about 10 have permanent residents, situated in the Eastern Caribbean, 60 miles east of Puerto Rico and 180 miles north-west of Antigua. The two largest islands are Tortola (21 square miles) and Virgin Gorda (eight square miles). Road Town, the capital, main port, administrative and business centre is located on Tortola.

This tropical paradise is called 'Nature's Little Secrets'. Eventhough I have been here for almost nine years I am still amazed at the beautiful blue waters.

It has all of the ingredients for a perfect sailing charter, consistent winds, gorgeous islands, destinations varying from posh hotels to deserted beaches, shipwrecks, beach party towns, and a pace and charm that perfectly fits sailing. In fact, nearly the entire economy is devoted to sailing, and charterers meet people from all over the world of like mind and spirit.

The British Virgin Islands is a favorite destination for the yachting crowd, scuba divers, snorkelers, families, couples seeking getaways, romantics planning island weddings and honeymoons. Visit Anegada, a flat island with miles of beaches or Tortola with it's high ridge back road with spectacular views. Wander over to Virgin Gorda and experience the famous Baths, sail to Norman Island to snorkel "the Caves" and have drinks at the Willie-T followed by dinner at Pirates Beach Bar and Grill.

Cruise ship in the BVI territory

Charter a yacht for a day or charter a boat for a week - snorkel colorful coral reefs, dive the Wreck of the Rhone, or simply cruise around to discover the best beaches scattered throughout this vast island chain.

Have a wedding or renew your vows with a romantic ceremony on a white sandy beach at sunset or garden terrace overlooking the turquoise Caribbean Sea - the BVI has some spectacular settings. Then celebrate with an intimate honeymoon in a secluded cottage, an elegant villa, or beachside hotel. I highly recommend this fabulous Resort, they plan everything for you. You don't have to worry about a thing!

Take a look at some pictures that I took of the surrounding areas of the resort for my photo blog The BVI is a popular destination for most cruise ships during the season (April - October). On a really busy day sometimes there are two ships on the dock and two anchored away from the dock. The BVI has such beautiful beaches, take a look at my pictures
