As a young teenager I made a Shephards Pie ocassionally so in today’s post I am going to share a simple shephards pie recipe. Normally I would use ground beef but I am using minced turkey in this recipe.
Minced turkey. I purchased the minced turkey that is sold in the roll and only used half of the pack.
2 tablespoons home made green seaoning (I blended one onion, garlic cloves, basil leaves, parsley, and chives)
Dry seasoning – garlic and parsley
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 teaspoon pepper sauce (optional)
3 large potatoes
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons canola oil
In a sauce pan add the canola then the minced turkey. Season with the green seasoning, salt, black pepper and pepper sauce.
Add the grated carrots. Stir. Taste and set aside.
Peel three large potatoes and place in a pot of water and allow to cook. When the potatoes are cooked transfer to a bowl. Use a potato masher to mash up the potatoes.
Season with salt, black pepper and the garlic & parsley dry seasoning. Add the butter. Mix well.
Set oven 350 degrees F.
In a baking dish pour in the cooked minced turkey. Now add the mashed and seasoned potatoes and flatten with the back of a spoon. Sprinkle with grated cheese.
Place the shephards pie in the oven and allow to bake for approximately 45 minutes.
