Sheppards Pie
Sheppards Pie is a very
satisfying dish, it contains protein, carbohydrates and all is needed
is a salad.
Ingredients
4 large potatoes
minced meat, turkey or chicken
1 egg
3/4 cup of milk
1 onion
3 garlic cloves
Method
Peel off the skin of each potato and cup them into six squares. Put the
cut up potato in a pot of water and put the pot on the stove to allow
the water to boil and potato to cook.
While that is going on, dice the onion and grate
garlic. Put a sauce pan on the stove to hot and add about two
tablespoon of coconut or olive oil. When the oil is hot add the diced
onion and garlic and let the vegetables saute for a few minutes.
Add the mince meat. If minced chicken or turkey is sold at your grocery
stores, it can be used in this recipe if you so desire. I can only get
minced meat at my grocer. Season the meat with your favorite seasons -
oregano, mint (I got some from my brother-in-law so I used some of
that). Of course salt, black pepper and pepper sauce if you like your
food spicy.
After the potatoes are well cooked, through out
the water and mash them. Add the milk and egg. I do not add any
seasoning to the potato because all the yummy ingredients are in the
minced meat. Mix everything together, until the potatos are nice and
creamy.
Now that everything is all cooked and seasoned,
you will need a pyrex dish to layer the minced meat and potato. Put
some of the mashed potato
and level off on the bottom of the baking dish. Now add some of the
cooked minced meat. Add a layer of cheese. Repeat these steps until all
the minced meat and mashed potato are used up or until the dish is full.
Put your oven to hot at 350 degrees and when it is
hot, put in the dish with the Sheppards Pie and
allow to cook for about 30 minutes. By that time the top of the Sheppards
Pie should be nice and golden brown. I served this dish with
a Spinach Salad
with a difference. I had some baby spinach in the fridge so I just add
some boiled beet root and coconut flakes and mixed everything together.
